Alleged gang members charged in dozen shootings on Long Island in decade long crackdown

Nine alleged gang members have been charged in Suffolk County in at least a dozen shootings, two being deadly.

Prosecutors say they asked the youngest members of the gang to do the shooting.

One of the alleged shooters was only 14 years old.

The evidence paints a frightening picture of bullets fired randomly in Huntington Station.

Alleged gang members who were hunting rivals and protecting territory for the better part of a decade are now involved in a major indictment.

Nine people were accused of an alleged gang conspiracy which included murder.

The grandmothers of 21-year-old Cameron Rimmer Hernandez who was shot and killed nearly 5 years ago on Lowndes Avenue and Tower Street, says she never gave up hope.

"The police were wonderful. They stuck with this for years, gathered the information.These are evil people. So they're gone. They're away for now," Christine Rimmer said.

According to the indictment, the alleged leader of the group of Bloods known as the Lowndes Block Gang was 31-year-old Marques Scott.

Prosecutors say he knew the game and ordered an aspiring gang member, Ramon Lyons who was only 14 at the time, to shoot and kill a former friend.

"They know that the laws in New York state are lenient when it comes to juveniles, and they are taking advantage of those laws," Raymond Tierney, Suffolk County District Attorney said.

In another case, they say 33-year-old Kevin Donaghy shot an innocent bystander outside a house party in 2016.

"We're targeting the right people. We're holding them accountable, even if it's 10 years ago," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina

In addition to the murder and shootings, investigators also learned that two of the defendants, Marques Scott and Joshua Brown, allegedly ran a sex trafficking operation to fund the gang.

In the end, there were 7 shooting victims and nearly a dozen firearms recovered.

Now the families of the victims finally getting justice.

"Innocent people are killed every day, we're just one little story," Rimmer said.
