Alleged gang member charged in connection with Brooklyn mass shooting at lounge that left 3 dead

A 25-year-old purported street gang member was charged Wednesday in connection with a late summer mass shooting in Brooklyn that killed three and injured ten.

Elijah Roy, who prosecutors said is an associate of the Bloods subset, is charged with assault and with being a felon in possession of ammunition.

He was arrested in North Carolina and was due in Brooklyn Federal court on Wednesday.

"As alleged, the defendant and other associates of a violent gang unleashed gunfire in the middle of a crowded bar, creating a killing zone that, in a matter of seconds, left three people dead and 10 victims wounded," said United States Attorney Joseph Nocella.

The FBI blamed a gang turf war for the shooting.

"Elijah Roy, a Bloods associate, allegedly participated in a mass shooting in a crowded local restaurant, killing three and significantly injuring another ten in about six seconds," said FBI Assistant Director Chris Raia. "This alleged act of egregious violence harmed bystanders caught in the crosshairs of a gang's territorial dispute."

According to the criminal complaint, Roy was present at Taste of the City Lounge August 17 with other members of 5-9 Brims and members of a rival gang, Folk Nation Gangster Disciples. The gunfire began at 3 a.m. and within six seconds, more 40 shots were discharged by Roy and others into the crowded bar, killing three and injuring ten.

Police say 19-year-old Marvin St. Louis and 35-year-old Jamel Childs, who officials say also engaged in gunfire, were killed along with 27-year-old Amadou Diallo, who officials believe was a bystander.
