Alex Pretti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse at a VA hospital. He was was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent Saturday morning in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Pretti was born at Park Ridge's Lutheran General Hospital, according to the Cook County Clerks Office.

There's a growing memorial in Pretti's honor on Chicago's West Side. Candles and flowers were place outside the Jesse Brown V.A. Medical Center near Damen and Taylor. Pretti was an intensive care unit nurse at the V.A in Minnesota.

A national nursing organization plans to hold a candlelight vigil at the Near West Side V.A. hospital on Wednesday in honor of Pretti.
On Monday, a federal judge will hear arguments on whether she should at least temporarily halt the immigration crackdown in Minnesota that has led to the fatal shootings of two people by government officers.
