Four people died and another was injured in a car crash Wednesday night in the Sonora area of Tuolumne County, the California Highway Patrol said.The crash happened at 5:54 p.m. at Shaws Flat Road and Highway 49. A westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 56-year-old man from Puerto Rico, for unknown reasons, stopped at the intersection but then proceeded directly into the path of a northbound pickup truck driven by an 18-year-old Jamestown man who was traveling at 60 mph, CHP said. The impact of the crash caused the Jeep to be propelled in a northwesterly direction before it landed on the west shoulder of Highway 49. The Jeep driver and his three passengers died from this crash, CHP said.The pickup driver suffered moderate to major injuries. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in causing the crash at this time, CHP said.
