A man was killed in an overnight shooting at a family member's home in Downey, police said.
The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. in the 8500 block of Fontana Avenue near Patton Street.
Details are limited, but according to the Downey Police Department, the man, identified only as a 33-year-old from San Pedro, was found dead at the scene.
"Preliminary information indicates this appears to be an isolated incident," said the police department in a statement.
Eyewitness News was on the scene Friday morning and captured police officers checking the area near an accessory dwelling unit attached to the back of a home.
Neighbors who spoke with ABC7 said the family, which includes some children, had been renting the ADU for about six months.
Reina Burks was watching TV in her room when she heard about four gunshots.
"It was really fast," she said. "I came to the door, of course, I didn't open the door, but then at 1 o'clock, the police came and asked me some questions about cameras and stuff, but I didn't hear nobody running. Like a car leaving fast,. nothing like that happened."
Neighbors said officers were going door to door, asking residents about any surveillance videos.
It's unclear what sparked the shooting and information regarding a suspect or suspects was not immediately available.
