CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Attempted murder charges have been filed in Kane County Court after two people were shot in Carpentersville last week.
Rafeal Ruiz Jr., 21, of Aurora, and a 17-year-old Carpentersville man, whose name is not being released since he is a juvenile, were arrested on Friday and charged with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a street gang member.
Authorities believe a physical fight earlier in the day on Aug. 13 lead to the shooting, Kevin Stankowitz, deputy chief of police, told Patch. Ruiz said the victims were all males, including a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old man and two 19-year-old men.
Two of the victims were shot and a third was beaten, Stankowitz said.
Ruiz had five outstanding warrants for his arrest at the time local police took him into custody, according to a news release from the Carpentersville Police Department.
The arrests came on Friday at a home in the 1500 block of Pawnee Road. At the time, a search warrant was executed as part of an investigation into a recent shooting that left three people with injuries, police said.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
