3 injured in Berkeley after pedestrian hit-and-run, attempted carjacking: police

Berkeley police are investigating after multiple people were injured in a series of incidents Tuesday morning, including a hit-and-run incident involving pedestrians and an attempted carjacking.

Police say a suspect allegedly drove onto the sidewalk in the 2700 block of Belrose Avenue before 8 a.m., hitting two people and driving off on Derby Street.

They say the suspect then attempted to carjack another person near Emerson Elementary School in the 2800 block of Garber Street and fled the scene on foot. That's where officers found the suspects car, with damage including a cracked windshield.

Shortly after, officers found and arrested the suspect in the 2800 block of College Avenue.

Berkeley police say three adult victims were transported to the hospital and they are currently investigating five separate crime scenes.

Police are asking people to avoid the area and to contact them with any information or video.

Berkeley Unified School District says that no students or staff were impacted in the incident.
