A 2-year-old boy died after a Tuesday night crash in Stanislaus County, the California Highway Patrol said. | VIDEO ABOVE | KCRA 3 morning headlines for January 22, 2025Early findings from investigators show that the toddler and an adult were standing on the west shoulder of Highway 33 north of Crows Landing Road around 10:25 p.m., CHP said. For reasons unknown, the toddler had run into the road when a 19-year-old man from Patterson driving northbound hit the child.CHP said the driver immediately pulled over after the crash. Shortly afterward, multiple gunshots were fired, hitting his vehicle.The man drove away uninjured, and CHP said officers later contacted him. He is cooperating with investigators. The agency did not release any details on if it was investigating DUI or speed as factors in the crash.CHP said an ambulance took the boy to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he later died of his injuries. His identity has not been released, but officials said he was from Newman.Highway 33 where the crash happened was temporarily closed during the initial investigation, CHP said.
