2 people shoot at NYPD officers in Westchester, who then returned fire, police say

Police said they’re looking for two people who shot at NYPD officers in Westchester County early Friday, leading the two officers to return fire before the suspects escaped.

No one was injured in the shootout, which happened in a residential area near 29 Pearl St. in Mount Vernon at around 5:45 a.m., according to department officials.

Police said the officers were cutting through the town just north of the Bronx, on their way back to their command base, when they spotted two people matching the descriptions of suspects in an armed gas station robbery.

The two people fired about four or five shots at the officers, according to officials. Authorities said the officers returned fire, but no one was hit and it was unclear how many shots they fired.
