It all started around 7:30 pm when police were called out for shots fired in the area of Blackstone and Nees avenues.

Officers say Ruiz was involved in some sort of argument with another car in the area, which led him to shoot. No one inside was hurt, but the car was hit by gunfire.

One officer saw Ruiz running away from the parking lot into oncoming traffic on Blackstone Avenue. The officer chased him on foot across the street to the Sam's Club.

As additional officers responded in patrol vehicles, one officer ran into Ruiz with his vehicle to stop him. Police Chief Mindy Casto said the officer was going less than 20 MPH.

Ruiz was taken to the hospital for treatment and later arrested. He will be booked into the Fresno County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.
