17-year-old suspect surrenders for hit-and-run that killed Philadelphia DJ June Rodriguez

A teenage suspect has surrendered for the hit-and-run crash that left a beloved local DJ dead , Philadelphia police said.

The 17-year-old boy, a city resident, surrendered to police with his attorney and his mother on Monday, investigators said.

The teen is being charged as a juvenile with a list of offenses, including homicide by vehicle and driving without a license.

Because he is a juvenile, his name has not been released.

The crash happened on Saturday, December 20, near North 56th Street and Lancaster Avenue in the Overbrook section of the city.

The victim, 54-year-old June Rodriguez, was riding his bicycle home from work when struck around 3:45 a.m.

He worked for decades at Bob and Barbara's Lounge.

"He knows people from all walks of life and would come here to see him. They knew when he was working," Katrina Duva, the lounge's general manager, said in an earlier interview with Action News.
