17-year-old charged in Chicago shooting that killed 1 teen, injured another on South Avers Avenue in West Lawn: CPD

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and attempted murder in a shooting earlier this week that injured one teen and killed another , Chicago police said Friday.

The 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm in the Wednesday night shooting, police said.

The teen was arrested early Thursday morning near where the shooting took place, police said.

CPD said, about 30 minutes before his arrest, he fatally shot an 18-year-old man in the head in the 7200-block of South Avers Avenue in West Lawn.

A 15-year-old was also shot.

Police said a group of five people was walking when three people in the group pulled out guns and fired shots at the other two.

The three suspects fled the scene, but were taken into custody by responding officers, police said.

The 17-year-old is due in court Friday.

Police said two guns were recovered from the scene. Area One detectives are investigating, and charges are pending.
