15-year-old boy killed, second teen injured in Bronx apartment building shooting

A 15-year-old boy is dead and another teenager is injured after gunfire erupted inside an apartment building in the Bronx.

The deadly shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at a high-rise building on Adee Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx.

Neighbors say they heard at least three gun shots inside the apartment building, which is called Eastchester Gardens.

Police say the shooting happened on the seventh floor.

The 15-year-old, identified as Eric Aitken of Connecticut, was shot in the chest during the incident. First responders transported the victim to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition before later being pronounced dead.

Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was also shot in the arm. He was taken to the same hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The shooting happening around dinner time just two days after Christmas.

Many neighbors living in the apartment complex are left on edge, including eyewitness Leon Stafford. He says the shooting happened right outside his door.

"I was just in my room doing my studying and I heard a bang, bang, bang three times, right? When I ran to the door, I seen three people running downstairs near the staircase and then I saw an individual holding my doorknob, so I pushed him out the way," Stafford said.

Stafford works a security job at a local nursing home and says he is tired of coming home and not feeling safe in his own building.

"When I'm coming back at 12 a.m. at night I see kids chilling in the park. That should not happen. That is completely unacceptable because this neighborhood is not the safest because the gangs, kids hanging out and the constant use of gun violence," Stafford said.

The NYPD is looking for multiple suspects in connection to the incident.

There are currently no arrests, as authorities work to determine a motive for the shooting.
