WILDOMAR, CA — A two-vehicle crash Monday night at a main Wildomar intersection left one person dead and two injured — and driving under the influence appears to be a crash factor, authorities confirmed.
The collision was reported at 9:06 p.m. at the intersection of Clinton Keith Road and Palomar Street, just west of Interstate 15, according to sheriff's Lt. Deirdre Vickers.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they found one person in the road with significant injuries, Vickers said.
Despite efforts to save the victim, the person died at the scene, according to the lieutenant.
One driver was extricated from the wreckage and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The second driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence, Vickers said.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Information about the drivers' identities was not released.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department closed both Clinton Keith Road and Palomar Street during the crash investigation.
No further details were immediately released.
