
The Omaha Police Department is investigating a shooting involving an officer.The incident happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday in the area of 152nd and Spencer streets.Officers were called to the area for a report of a burglary after a 911 caller said they heard a person trying to enter their home.PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Police chief comments on burglary in northwest OmahaThe OPD's helicopter team arrived and saw a person trying to enter a residence. The crew was able to provide officers on the ground with details of the suspect's whereabouts.According to the OPD, officers were met outside the residence by the owner of the home, and then, when officers attempted to contact the person in the backyard, the suspect broke the glass on the patio door and went inside the home. The OPD said aerial camera footage, as well as evidence from the scene, showed that the suspect used a gun to fire multiple rounds into the glass door in order to get inside.A shots-fired call was reported, and officers took cover, said the OPD.According to a news release from the OPD, a man exited the residence through the front door holding a firearm, which he fired at officers.
