A Northwest High School student who shot another peer during school hours will be sentenced in December. Ramone Jefferson, 15, and his lawyer accepted a negotiated plea on Wednesday. He then pleaded no contest to second-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon (firearm) during the commission of a felony. Back on Sept. 10, 2024, over the lunch hour, Omaha police were called to Omaha Northwest High School for a shooting.According to court documents, officers found the victim in one of the school's hallways. He had been shot in the torso. The teen was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery. Those same reports said that investigators determined Jefferson and the victim were involved in a physical altercation, and it was during that fight that Jefferson fired at the victim before running off. He was located a short time later. The gun was located by a gun-sniffing dog inside a tree cavity. Jefferson will be sentenced Dec. 18.
